I experience behavior like this on 2015 13' MBP (with only Intel Iris GPU) and 2015 15' MBP (with Iris GPU and AMD GPU), using Safari, Chrome, or Firefox, independent of using Night Shift or f.lux. Most commonly I experience it with Netflix and Youtube. Enabling subtitles in Netflix also reveals this issue - if subtitles are present on the screen, the video is rendered differently than with the subtitles not present on the screen.
Changing volume with keyboard buttons while viewing a fullscreen Youtube video also exhibits the behavior. It isn't just the color temperature shifting, it impacts the way contrast is rendered as well. It's almost like any time the operating system renders something 'on top' of the video (like a mouse cursor or subtitles), the video's color/tone/light are impacted. Contrast decreases and the picture doesn't look as good, until the 'overlay' is removed. Way more annoying is for laptops using discrete GPUs (AMD in my 15'), the video will sometimes crop to 2x zoom whenever an on-screen overlay (mouse cursor) is not present. Relaunching Safari fixes this issue. I think this issue is related to the dGPU being in use while Safari is open, but then switching to the iGPU while Safari is still open.
I think you need to turn off “use true color toning” in your settings. Edit: MacBook doesn’t have True Tone, and I found this: I have f.lux installed on my computer and I believe it was causing the issue in safari when it would change the default colors to a more warmer color at night. I have deleted f.lux and reinstalled the latest version of it but have it disabled for now. So far I am having no color distortion or haziness while watching youtube videos or Netflix. Will keep you updated when I turn f.lux back on later on tonight to see if the haziness and color distortion comes back. Thank you once again for the reply.
